Local wildlife & animals
Here are some photos of animals, insects, birds and wildlife and animals that we have seen at or near the cottage.
The cottage is in a rural area of Brittany that does not employ intensive farming practices, which means there is still plenty of space in the woods, copses, field edges, and riversides for wildlife.
We have over an acre of garden, so have chosen to let part of the rear garden revert to a natural heathland habitat with naturalised oak and sweet chestnut trees. We have a mown pathway around this part of the garden to make access easier. Since we bought the property in 2006 we have seen many oak, chestnut, hazel, elder, blackthorn and broom naturalise in this area. This now a haven for wild birds, insects and animals.
We have also seen Otters and Kingfishers at the river bridge in Moulin de Penroc, a couple of minutes walk from the cottage. Other wildlife seen and heard, but not so easily photographed include Kestrels, fox, owl, and cuckoo.
